DetailsThe artist Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, the famous muralist, were married. Their tempestuous relationship had many ups and downs. The front of the chair is a painting from a happy time. Considered a wedding portrait, it was painted by Frida in April of 1931 to commemorate their time in the "delightful city of San Francisco" where Diego was painting the huge Pan American Unity mural for the Golden Gate International Exposition. They had been married for two years. The painting on the back, also known as "Diego in My Thoughts," was started in 1940, the year that Frida and Diego divorced.
